Banana Jack Murphy Banana Jack arrived on the Grand Strand in 1989. He was actually
hired by Tom Rogers, who once owned Tiger Radio, WTGR. Jack handled morning duties
on WKZQ 101.7 FM for Grand Strand Broadcasting through 1997. Hirsch Broadcasting
purchased WKZQ in 1997, but Banana Jack remained as morning show host. In 2000,
Hirsch Broadcasting sold WKZQ to Next Media. Banana Jack remained at WKZQ until
2001, when he replaced Howard Stern at Wave 104.1 (WYAV), also a Next Media station.
Jack remained at Wave 104.1 until 2007.
In 2007, Jack along with his wife, Barb
Krumm, formed their own company and purchased WLSC AM 1240 in Loris. Banana Jack
Murphy Productions LLC constructed new studios on Main Street in downtown Loris, SC.
Jack has been hosting the morning show at WLSC since the fall of 2007.
In addition to a long career in radio,
Jack has also gained notoriety as host of the daily television program, River Talk with
Jack Murphy. River Talk currently airs weekdays at 7:30 am on WWMB-CW 21 and 4 times
daily on HTC Cable Channel 4. Jack also occassionally fills in for Greg Rowles on
"Not The News" which airs nightly on WFXB-FOX TV.
Bert
and Squirt What
started as a joke at home has turned into a radio feature and occasionally a television
appearance for Jack and his son Tristan. Throughout the day, listeners to Tiger
Radio can hear Bert and Squirt. Tristan is billed as the World's Youngest Disc
Jockey by his father, Jack. The father-son team started performing Bert and Squirt
skits with Squirt merely laughing at the punchline. It didn't take Squirt very long
to start delivering the punchline. Bert and Squirt were the opening act for HTC's
Reel Kids banquet which was televised. The duo has also performed at Broadway at the
Beach in Myrtle Beach. They also take part in the Kids Stuff program at Ocean View
Baptist Church.
